WHAT TO DO TO PROTECT YOUR ENVIRONMENT

Clean Air

Painting your house?  Use a latex paint.  Oil-based paints release hydrocarbon fumes.

Get a tune-up.  Properly maintained vehicles get better gas mileage and emit fewer pollutants.

Don’t top off your gas tank.  Overfilling causes spills that release hydrocarbons and other toxic chemicals into the air.

Conserve energy.  You’ll lower your utility bills and help avoid peak demands on utility plants.

Don’t burn your yard waste.  It’s illegal in many areas of Ohio because burning yard waste releases mold spores, soot, and other contaminants that can aggravate allergies and cause respiratory problems.

Plant a tree.  Trees absorb carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas.

Park the car.  Walk, bike or use mass-transit whenever you can. Vehicle traffic is a major contributor to smog.

Clean Water

Use less fertilizer on your lawn.  When it rains, excess fertilizer runs off into storm sewers and pollutes streams.

Never pour anything – especially waste oil or leftover lawn chemicals – into a storm drain.  It will end up in the nearest stream.

Don’t  trash our streams.  Volunteer groups sponsoring annual cleanups find everything from old tires to old appliances in our waterways.

Water your lawn in the early morning, when the water will soak in and not evaporate in the heat of the day.

Don’t water more than once a week, and then only if it hasn't rained.  Established lawns need only one inch of water a week.

Don’t water the sidewalk - it won’t grow.  Set your sprinkler to keep the water on the lawn.

Mulch around your landscaping.  A three-inch layer of mulch holds moisture and prevents evaporation, reducing the need to water.

Use a bucket when you wash the car, instead of the hose.  Letting the water run while you work costs money and wastes water. Only use the hose to rinse.

Sweep your driveway and sidewalk instead of cleaning them up by spraying with the hose.

Don’t do the dishes until you have a full load.  Your dishwasher uses 12 gallons of water whether it’s full or half-empty.

Wash a full load of laundry.  Your washing machine uses 40 gallons of water.  Run it full, or adjust the water level to the size of your load.

Don’t let the water run while you shave or brush your teeth.  Turn it on only when you need it.  Every minute the faucet runs, five gallons of water go down the drain.

Take a shorter shower.  And switch to a low-flow shower head.

Repair leaky faucets and toilets.  You can tell if the toilet leaks by putting food coloring in the tank.  If color shows up in the bowl without flushing, there’s a leak.

Install faucet aerators.  You can cut your water usage by up to six percent.

Clean Land

Recycle.   If your community does not  offer a recycling program, ask local officials to start one.

Don’t put hazardous materials in the trash.  Save paints, pesticides, lawn chemicals, car batteries, waste oil and similarmaterials for your local household hazardous waste collectionday

Turn in your mercury thermometer and replace it with a digital one.  Mercury is a persistent pollutant that moves up the food chain and can cause serious health problems. Never vacuum spilled mercury.  If you have mercury in your home, call Ohio EPA (614-644-3469) to find out how to get rid of it safely.

Don’t buy more than you need.  When it comes  to lawn chemicals, pesticides, paints and other hazardous materials, buy a smaller package so you won’t have leftovers to dispose of.

Paper or plastic?  Better yet, take a canvas bag to the grocery and re-use it each time you shop.

Use both sides of the paper.  Set your copier to make double-sided copies and you’ll substantially reduce your paper use.

Use rechargeable batteries.  Many batteries contain metals that are better kept out of landfills.

Give it away, don’t throw it away.  Many charitable organizations accept donations of wearable clothing and gently used household items.

PROTECT YOUR ENVIRONMENT

To protect our environment we should first of all devise a national plan to curtail our ecological and water footprint. We are presently using more resources than what our island can provide us with and this is not sustainable. We cannot afford unlimited economic growth as the ensuing social and environmental problems will be unmanageable. We should stabilise our population and establish a sustainable carrying capacity for tourists. Our consumption pattern should be challenged as we are heading beyond the sustainable limit mostly through greediness and western lifestyle.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

Environmental protection is a practice of protecting the natural environment on individual, organizational or governmental levels, for the benefit of both the natural environment and humans. Due to the pressures of population and technology, the biophysical environment is being degraded, sometimes permanently. This has been recognized, and governments have begun placing restraints on activities that cause environmental degradation. Since the 1960s, activity of environmental movements has created awareness of the various environmental issues. There is no agreement on the extent of the environmental impact of human activity, and protection measures are occasionally criticized.

PROTECTION OF THE ENVIRONMENT

Save money on renewable power

Renewable energy is more affordable than you might think. The average household can add Renewable Energy Credits to the conventional power it already consumes for less than 24¢ per day!

Reduce your carbon footprint

Buying Renewable Energy Credits avoids the emission of carbon dioxide that would have been associated with the production of energy from a conventional source, like a coal or natural gas power plant. Each renewable energy credit eliminates the carbon dioxide emissions of 1,000 kWh of electricity.

Create demand for renewable energy

Buying Renewable Energy Credits help to create additional demand for renewable power by providing utilities and independent power producers with a supportive marketplace.

Connect with the green-collar revolution in your area

The wind farms you purchase Renewable Energy Credits from aren’t just creating emission-free energy, they’re also creating jobs and supporting the communities in which they’re built. Unlike buying renewable energy from a utility, Green Power Offsets gives you a choice of wind farm sources when you buy Renewable Energy Credits.

EARTH'S SURFACE & ENVIRONMENT

Earth's surface and the environment surrounding is important to human health. The nature of soil, water, air, temperature, wind, cloud, rainfall, humidity etc. determines man's health and welfare. Pollution of the environment result from a wide range of human activities: uncontrolled disposal of human excreta and refuge, industrial discharges, smoke from coal or oil burning, fumes from motor vehicles, misuses or overuse of insecticides and fertilizers. Population explosion, results in malnutrition, over consumption of food causes obesity, diabetes and dental decay.

In both rural and urban areas of developing countries, the age old issues of access to safe water, poor domestic hygiene and dependence on traditional low grade fuels for cooking and heating continue to pose particular problems to the health of under privileged women. Rapid urbanization exposes women to other hazard in addition, such as inadequate housing, exploitative and employment. Exposures of women to pesticides and other toxins has not been addressed in depth.

HEALTH & ENVIRONMENT

Health depends on the environment in which one is born and brought up. Environment can be both a causes as cure of many diseases.

In the context of health and disease environment may be divided under two headings (i) External environment and (ii) Internal environment factors like air, water, earth and its various products etc. comprise the external environment whereas the blood with various components that includes in our body, hormones, our emotions constitute what we call internal environment.

CHALLENGES OF HUMANITY

  • Nowadays, one of the important challenge of humanity is many threats that involved our environment. Green house gases, fumes or many harmful chemical productions have destroyed our natural of the world.from my point of you, many operations could be done to prevent these destruction. Some of these advises are discussed.

    • To begin with, one of the important issues in our world is increase of green house gasses. Green house gases have harmed our environment specially the ozone layer. Many operations have done for reducing of these gases. Scientists try to make new machine that it does not produce fumes or harmful gases, but new machines just pour out useful gases for natural such as hydrogen. Most of the old factories have produced green house gases more than acceptable level and they should renew. There for, in future, new machines and factories would produce gases that should be harmony with nature. Another useful way to reduce these gases is trees because a tree can reduce these gases. The cultivation of trees in their environment is a good way to reduce green house gases.
    • Moreover, many of production used these days has damage the nature or not decompose. Many factories have ruined the local river by dumping the chemicals into rivers. These wastes have been dangerous and they threaten many beings. Nowadays, many rubbishes has found in many rivers and mountains that do not decay. It is important to clear up mountains and rivers from wastes and rubbishes; also, the government should prevents all factories from dumping chemicals into river.
    • In summary, our environment has been threatened by much pollution that have made by us. If we open our eyes, then recognize that it will be a major problem for health of beings in future. Many of factories should be renewable and our nature should maintain clean if health of us is important.
